Kenneth Wayne Arthur was born in Uvalde, Texas on September 1, 1945. He passed from this life on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at his home in Concan.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Barbara, who married him after he got her attention in grade school by throwing rocks at her as she rode by on her bicycle. He loved her from the first rock, and they were married for 43 years.

He is also survived by his son Clint and wife Korye, daughter Casey Whatley and husband Bryan, daughter Candace Ray and husband Harper. He was also blessed with 12 grandchildren who were all the lights of his life, especially during the last couple of years as he fought the terrible disease of cancer. Also surviving Kenneth are his brother Pierce Arthur, Jr. and sisters Shirley White and Barbara Lowrance, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Pierce and Velma Arthur.

Kenneth received a degree in Agriculture at the former Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, and he brought his young wife and family to the Concan area in the late 70's. He started with a dump truck, back hoe, and a small office behind his house.

In this world there are thinkers, dreamers, and doers. Kenneth was all three. He followed his dreams when others laughed and said that a subdivision in Concan would not work, and that no one would buy out here in the country. His hard work and determination proved successful.

Kenneth loved to be busy and worked along side his employees in the early days. He was always a hands-on person. In his final months, he could still be seen driving a golf cart and checking on his jobs and properties.

Kenneth was loyal to a fault. His word was his bond, and a handshake was as good as a signature on a page. He spent his adult life working to make Concan a beautiful place for others families to enjoy, as he had with his own family.

Kenneth Arthur was a giver. He gave to everyone who ever asked him, whether it was a young boy needing a job, a couple who needed to buy a house that required a cosigner, or numerous charities in the area. He couldn't say no to a need. He loved the outdoors and encouraged wife, Barbara, to do the same. They hunted and fished the world over, as well as tried to preserve the natural beauty around them.

As stated earlier, Kenneth's hands defined him. You could see the man he was when you looked at them. In the words of songwriter, Holly Dunn: I remember Daddy's hands, how they held my mama tight, And patted my back, for something done right. There are things that I've forgotten, that I loved about the man, But I'll always remember the love in Daddy's hands...

Kenneth Arthur will be missed by his family and friends. He will leave a large hole to be filled – a true pioneer for the recreation industry in Concan and a family man that put everyone's needs before his own, and most of all, he will be remembered by family and friends for that crooked little smile that told us everything would be alright. Services will be held at House Pasture Cattle Co., Saturday, September 4th at 5:30 p.m.

The family has requested Memorials be given to your local hospice care organization.
