Ashley Waligura explores Alaska

Leakey I.S.D. graduate, Ashley Waligura decided, after spending a couple of years pursuing a college eduction, to take some time off this summer and explore Alaska. The adventurous young lady is working at Gwin’s Lodge in Cooper Landing, Alaska. She departed from Leakey May 12 and will return August 15.

As you can see by the photograph, Ashley did a little fishing. She caught Dolly Varden and Halibut out of Port Lions Lodge located on Kodiak Island.

She has already spent a week in Anchorage and visited the Sea Life Center in Seward.

“I have been scenic rafting and have learned how to walk on the slackline, even though I am not 100% sure what it is,” reports Ashley.

Ashley elected to follow in her brother’s foot steps after he returned from his Alaskan experience last year. His stories inspired Ashley to pursue the adventure. She went on line, made some phones calls and found immediate employment. The Leakey Star will be reporting about her trip throughout the summer months.

Ashley’s parents are Joe and Leanne Waligura of Leakey. Joe manages a ranch and Leanne is a secretary employed by Leakey I.S.D.
